In Remembrance of Those Who Have Gone Before Us

Virginia Pietrzykowski (March 17, 1930-February 15, 2019) was a longtime Lake Martin resident at what was affectionately known as “The Shack” on the lake. She and her husband Stan spent many happy years there renovating their property, making friends and hosting family gatherings. Virginia was a devoted Lake Watch of Lake Martin member and is remembered as the “go to” person in Lake Watch.

Beginning when she and Stan attended the first gathering of citizens interested in protecting Lake Martin in 1991, Virginia served in a variety of positions with Lake Watch:

  • Volunteer water quality monitor
  • Certified Trainer
  • Certified in AWW Chemical, Biological and Bacterial testing
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Member, Board of Directors
  • Quality Assurance-Quality Control Officer

In the latter position, Virginia was constantly instructing and informing Lake Watch volunteer monitors concerning dates for testing, new chemical and equipment orders, and ensuring that test results were consistent and entered into the Alabama Water Watch database.

Virginia and Stan were some of the most dedicated members of Lake Watch, attending meetings and volunteering for a myriad of duties.  They were best friends with Dick and Mary Ann Bronson and will be remembered fondly by all who knew them.
